About the Garden

What is the Pilot Community Allotment Garden “Under the Stars”?
The garden enables Gardeners — including those who are just beginning — to cultivate healthy food sustainably on their own piece of land.
An important element of the project is participation. This means that every garden user can co‑participate in cultivating the shared space — from planning to organization. It is part of a broader experiment: together we are building a prototype operational model for future urban gardens.
Where is it located?
Kraków, Zakamycze district, Orla Street
In the vicinity of the Astronomical Observatory.
Location: 50.055835, 19.827891
How does it work?
- 47 cultivation plots are allocated through a recruitment process.
- Each plot is 25 m² (one quarter of an are), leased for the season for individual cultivation.
- Community mini‑farm — gardeners may participate in production and management of the shared area.
- Shared tool resources — gardening tools are available on site; participants may also bring their own.
- Community — we act together, learn together, and make decisions collectively; we jointly develop the operating principles.
- Educational program — the garden community organizes events aimed at promoting and popularizing urban gardening.
Why are we doing this?
In the face of climate change, shrinking resources, and uncertainty within broader systems, the need for local, resilient, and community‑based forms of action is increasing.
A community garden is one of the simplest and most accessible ways to respond meaningfully to these challenges.
It connects food production with education, interpersonal relationships with responsibility for the place in which we live.
It is a step toward an urban future that functions collaboratively, locally, and responsibly.
